About THOMO : Objectives

THOMO is a R & D project for the:

Improvement of knowledge regarding the thorax injury mechanisms in automotive context
Exploitation through the development of thorax human body models (with personalization):
- More accurate rib geometrical properties.
- Rib fracture mechanisms.
- Validation/rib strain fields in various different loadings
Improvement of normalization methods.
Improvement of the knowledge regarding the role of soft tissues in the overall stiffness.
Improvement of dummies for real safety (biofidelity, criteria)

Consortium versus achievement of the objectives of the project

The consortium comprises 4 partners established in 3 countries (France, Poland, and Czech Republic):

Centre Européen d’Etudes de Sécurité et d’Analyse des Risques, a French research group in Accidentology, Biomechanics and Behaviour,

Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut Cambresis, a French Universitythrough its laboratory LAMIH working in biomechanics and crashworthiness modelling and tests,

University of West Bohemia, a Czech University through its New Technologies – Research Centre specialized in applied mechanics,

Warsaw University of Technology, a Polish Technology University through its Virtual Safety Engineering and Biomechanics Lab specialized in applied mechanics.
